What Is Recovery Like After ESR?
Most Patients Recover at Home
Because ESR is performed through the mouth, there are no abdominal incisions. Patients may experience temporary nausea, cramping, abdominal pressure, throat irritation, or fatigue during early recovery.
A liquid diet is generally used first, followed by a gradual transition toward softer foods and then smaller regular meals according to the individual post-procedure plan.
Many patients return to desk-type work and normal daily activities within several days, although recovery varies.
When Will I Notice a Difference?
Restriction May Return Before Significant Weight Loss Does
Patients may first notice that smaller portions feel more satisfying. Weight loss then develops over the following months as the revised sleeve is combined with nutrition, activity, and follow-up care.
There is no single percentage of weight loss that can be promised after ESR. Results depend on anatomy, starting weight, amount of regain, eating behavior, metabolic health, and adherence to the post-revision program.
